You helped us to make an amazing gift to the hospital – two echocardiogram (echo) machines costing £180,000, for the Cardiology department.

The machines use ultrasound to show images of the heart, allowing staff to look at the chambers, valves and blood vessels, and how the blood is pumping through. Echo tests are quick and painless. They are used to diagnose heart attacks, heart failure, valve problems and other heart diseases.

The two new echo machines have made a real difference to the team in Cardiology, as well as the thousands of patients who come into the department. The waiting list used to be 11 months, and it’s now just six weeks – an incredible impact, and we’re so grateful for your help in making that happen.

The N&N Echo Team receive approximately 350 echocardiogram requests a week. This equates to 18,000 a year – the largest numbers in the region by far.

We have six echo rooms, each with a machine in, so every machine will be required for 3,000 scans per year. Without the two machines paid for with charity funding, we would be trying to squeeze 6,000 echoes into space that is not available.
