About the hospital

The Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital is the second oldest dedicated children’s hospital in the country and it has been providing specialist care for children in Norfolk since it was opened in 1854.

The hospital was made possible thanks to the fundraising concerts featuring the Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind. Nicknamed the “Swedish Nightingale”, Jenny was one of the most popular entertainers in mid-19th century Europe – you may have seen her feature as a character in the hit film The Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman.

In 2024 more than 1000 babies were admitted to NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) where our specialist team have successfully cared for some of the country’s smallest preterm babies, born at 22 weeks.

In 2023, the hospital opened dedicated paediatric theatres complex with invaluable input on how to make it the most welcoming of places from our experts - Our patients.

Transforming their time in hospital

Thanks to your donations, our charity provides cutting-edge equipment to improve treatments and help more children to go home sooner. We fund specialist play materials to help distract and support children during their care, and enhance hospital spaces with uplifting, child‑friendly artwork. We make overnight stays easier for parents and carers, even including dedicated accommodation nearby.

It's all thanks to you
