 Rachel Backshall MBA MInstF has more than 25 years’ experience across leading UK charities including Whizz Kidz, Coram, Parkinson’s UK and Marie Curie.

She has led fundraising, communications and organisational transformation, driven by a passion for improving health and wellbeing.

Rachel is Charity Director at NNUH and a Trustee of Pancreatic Cancer UK. A strategic leader in income generation and partnerships, she is committed to building stronger, healthier communities. She lives in Norfolk with her husband and dog, Doris.


Julie CooperJulie Cooper

Head of Charity Operations and Impact

Julie is an ACCA-qualified accountant who joined the charity in 2017. She leads day-to-day operations, focusing on financial management and the impact of grant funding.

With a background in education finance, she values the variety of her role and the difference the charity makes for patients.

Julie has lived in Norfolk since childhood and is proud to give back to her local hospital. Outside work, she enjoys exploring the countryside on her motorbike with her husband and dog.


Lynn CrombieLynn Crombie

Communications Manager

Lynn is an experienced communications leader, journalist and editor with more than 30 years in media, healthcare and the charity sector.

At Norfolk & Norwich Hospitals Charity, she leads strategic communications to raise awareness, inspire support and demonstrate impact. Passionate about storytelling, she connects people through compelling narratives that build trust, engage communities and create meaningful impact.

Lynn has held senior communications roles within NHS trusts and was previously a senior journalist with the BBC, CNN, the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News.


Ross DennisonRoss Dennison

Charity Accountant

Ross joined the charity team in 2019 after starting as a business administration apprentice and has progressed to two accountancy qualifications and is about to begin his professional qualification.

His main role includes handling the finances within the charity but is always happy to help across all aspects of the charity. Ross enjoys playing football and in particular, watching Arsenal.


Samuel Ridge-WardSamuel Ridge-Ward

Grants & Impact Officer

Samuel joined the N&N Hospitals Charity in June 2019 and is the Grants and Impact Officer.

He reviews the grant applications that are submitted to the charity and monitors their impact to ensure that money entrusted to the charity is used wisely.

Sam has worked for the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals since leaving college and enjoys helping staff across the trust, exploring ways in which the charity can help them.

Catherine joined the Charity in 2023 to support the business and operational running of the Charity and handle legacy administration. 

Catherine has worked for the Legal Team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital since 2008 which has provided an opportunity to gain a wide range of experience and knowledge of the Hospitals and the wider NHS. 

She is passionate about using this knowledge to support the charity to develop and benefit patients for generations to come.

Sarah Jane is a fundraising and community engagement professional experienced across charity, public and commercial sectors.

At Norfolk & Norwich Hospitals Charity, she develops partnerships and leads community fundraising initiatives. She combines strategic thinking with a hands-on approach and is passionate about wellbeing.

A qualified Pilates instructor, she also runs a wellbeing business and supports local community events, including Sheringham Carnival. Sarah Jane is driven by a desire to make a positive difference.

Andrew joined the charity in 2023 and leads trusts and foundations fundraising.

He develops grant applications and builds relationships with funders to support key campaigns.

With a background in creative writing and experience at healthcare charities, Andrew specialises in producing compelling funding cases that highlight the charity’s impact.

Remy joined the charity in January 2024 and specialises in individual giving, including in-memory and legacy donations.

They also support mass participation events such as the London Landmarks Half Marathon, helping fundraisers feel confident and inspired.

Remy is passionate about building meaningful connections with supporters and enabling them to make a lasting impact for patients and families across Norfolk.

Rebecca has worked for the charity since 2022 but has worked across the NHS since 2014. 

She is often the first person that you meet when visiting the Charity Hub and one of the first contacts for the Charity. 

Her role is primarily administration, answering telephones calls, emails, sending thank you letters, looking after our Amazon Wish Lists and liaising with colleagues both within the charity and across the Norfolk and Norwich Hospitals sites.

Alison joined the team in October 2025 and is the first point of contact for any calls or queries and to process donations made to the charity. 

She has previously spent 12 years in Childcare and Education as an early years educator, working with two to four year olds and 12 years in administrative and banking /investment banking.

She has also worked as a Family Liaison Officer here at the NNUH (bank role) in Kimberley Ward and Mattishall Ward.
