A fundraiser who raised £10,000 for the cancer team that cared for her parents, raised another £10,000 after completing an epic challenge.
Sprowston’s Louisa Dye spent five days covering thousands of steps along sections of the Great Wall of China.
Louisa was raising money for the Norfo
lk and Norwich University Hospital’s oncology department in memory of her mum and dad, Stuart and Christine Clarke, who both died with cancer.
The trek followed her earlier 500-miles-in-a-month challenge, which even inspired a message of support from Scottish band The Proclaimers, behind the hit song’ I’m Gonna Be (500 miles)’.
Louisa returned to the N&N to meet the team which is benefitting from her hard-earned donations.
She said of the inspiration behind her efforts: “Since losing mum, I have struggled greatly with grief. Losing one parent is hard – losing two is heartbreaking.
“This is where the challenges have come from. I never knew I had this in me, but I now have the inner urge and adventure to do anything I can to help raise money for the oncology department.
“The China trek comprised flat areas, rugged areas and some with a sheer drop either side as well as 1,000 steps up to the Mutianyu wall to the Heavenly Ladder, which is a 45-degree climb, and you have to climb with your hands and feet.”
